Animal's Name and Type
Our dog is a mystery mutt. She is part German shepherd, part something else smaller--possibly some kind of terrier. We got her on April Fool's Day so we named her Folly.
What is the animal's story?
My then-fiance and I decided to adopt a dog. We used Petfinder.com and visited a few dogs, but they weren't right for us. We decided to try a shelter. We walked through the aisles looking at a lot of dogs. Folly was the only one who didn't bark like crazy. She just stood at the side of her pen and gave us a pleading look. She had been found on the roadside and had been at the shelter for over a month, but that's all we know about her past. She was about 1.5 to 2 years old then.
Advice
- Please check out shelter animals. There are so many who need homes. If you are looking for a specific breed, contact rescue organizations.
- Consider an older animal. We preferred not to get a puppy since we were gone during the workday (we did have a dog-walker come in once a day). Our dog still responded well to training even as a slightly older dog.
What is this animal's life like now?
We have had her for 10 years. She has been with us through marriage, two kids, and relocation from an urban apartment to a suburban home halfway across the country. She loves to run in our backyard and she is still frequently mistaken for a puppy!
