Hair Fix Review

Review of a Vegan, Cruelty-Free Dry Shampoo

Hair Fix (Buy Direct) is a vegan, cruelty-free dry shampoo, with the slogan, “Not Your Grandma’s Dry Shampoo!” I can’t attest to the slogan since I’ve never tried any other dry shampoo, let alone dry shampoo from 50 years ago, but I can say that Hair Fix quickly took the greasy shine and greasy feeling out of my hair when I was in a rush and didn't have time to jump in the shower.

I tried Hair Fix twice, at times when my hair was slightly oily and I should have shampooed my hair. Following the instructions, I carefully squeezed small amounts of the black powder (Hair Fix comes in four colors, to match your tresses) into my roots, all over the top of my head, and then brushed my hair. The shine and piece-y look of my oily hair was gone instantly, and the effect lasted all day. I was worried that black powder would fall out of my hair throughout the day, like goth dandruff, but as I ran my hands through my hair, the black powder was nowhere to be seen.

My hair is very straight and fine, and Hair Fix did make my hair feel thicker, as if there were a styling product in it, but didn’t weigh down my hair.

In addition to being vegan and cruelty-free, all of the ingredients are natural and many are organic. The light fragrance of lavender and mint is nice, but might be annoying if you don’t like lavender and mint, or if it clashes with your perfume.

Another advantage of Hair Fix is being able to carry it on a plane without worrying about the security restrictions on liquids.

The only disappointment was the applicator brush, which is $15.95 by itself, or an extra $10 if ordered with a bottle of Hair Fix. The brush is also vegan, since it is made of synthetic fiber instead of animal hair, and has a compartment that you load with the dry shampoo, and a button to press to dispense the product. The instructions warn not to press the button too hard or too much product will come out all at once. I was unable to find the right touch, because pressing the button lightly did not dispense the powder as far as I could tell, and pressing harder did result in a large puff of black powder coming out of the brush. This is not a major problem, because I did fine forgoing the brush and just squeezing the product directly from the nozzle of the bottle onto my scalp.

The CEO of Hair Fix, Gina Grega, is a friend of a friend of mine, but did not influence this review.

Hair Fix (Buy Direct) is $19.95 for a 2 ounce bottle.
