What is Flystrike?

Definition: Flystrike is a condition where fly eggs hatch on a host animal, and the emerging maggots eat the host animal alive. Maggots are the larval stage of flies, and can kill the host animal if the condition goes untreated. Any animal can become a victim of flystrike. Flystrike tends to afflict weak, young, old and sick animals who are unable to thoroughly clean themselves.
Also Known As: Myiasis fly-blown
Examples:
Sadly, Sam lost his pet rabbit last summer to flystrike.
