These are some of the leading consumer magazines and scholarly journals providing information about the animal rights movement. Some publications are out of print, but readers may be able to find back issues.

• The Animals Voice - This full-color bimonthly publication includes news, features and action alerts on the range of animal rights topics. Its predecessor, The Animals Voice Magazine, was published from 1986 to 1997, when it went out of print. The publication is back in this new incarnation, published by a nonprofit organization of the same name, and is available by print or electronic subscription.
  
  
• The Animals’ Agenda - This consumer magazine ceased publication effective with the March/April 2002 issue. It was published by the Animal Rights Network, later known as the Institute for Animals and Society. This organization is now part of The Animals and Society Institute, which publishes Society & Animals Journal and the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science. A limited number of back issues are available online.
  
  
• Society & Animals Journal - This journal focuses on the emerging multi-disciplinary field of human-animal studies, including looking at animals in society through the lenses of psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science and history. Topics include the animal rights movement, the politics of animal welfare, attitudes toward animals, uses of animals and human-animal interactions. The journal is published by The Animals and Society Institute, a nonprofit organization formed by the 2005 merger of Society and Animals Forum (formerly Psychologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and the Institute for Animals and Society (previously the Animal Rights Network). The organization also publishes the peer-reviewed Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science.
  
  
• Animal People News – This newspaper has covered animal protection issues around the world since 1992. It is published 10 times per year by the nonprofit organization Animal People, Inc. The newspaper is available in French and Spanish, and some materials also are available in Arabic.
  
  
• Animal Law Review – This journal comes out twice a year and is published by the Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon – which also is the home of the first Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapter, formed in 1992. The publication provides “academic legal coverage of animal and animal rights issues” from all sides.
  
  
• Bite Back – This magazine covers the activities of radical animal rights groups, such as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). It also publishes the Direct Action Report, with a timeline of specific actions that occurred during the year. The publication started in 2002, and it describes itself as “dedicated to the advocacy of those caught or currently in the underground for animal liberation.”
  
  
• No Compromise – This magazine is no longer being printed but has transitioned to an online-only resource. It provides news about militant, direct action of radical animal rights activists. It describes itself as “dedicated to unifying the grassroots animal liberationists by providing a forum where activists can exchange information, share strategy, discuss important issues within the movement, network with each other in an open and respectful environment and strengthen the grassroots.”
