On Tuesday night, a vegan chef took home top honors and a $10,000 cash prize on Food Network's Cupcake Wars. Chloe Coscarelli of chefchloe.com beat out three other chefs and won the night with four different vegan cupcakes. Her recipe for Creme-Filled Chocolate Orange Cupcakes is now available on the VegNews website, while the Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes are on chefchloe.com. You can also read VegNews' interview with Coscarelli here.
If you missed it, like I did, you'll have at least three more chances to watch: June 27 at 5:00 PM ET/PT, June 27 at 11:00 PM ET/PT and June 28, 2010 at 2:00 AM ET/PT.
Congratulations, Chloe!

Way to go Chloe. Vegan cupcakes don’t have to taste bad as Chloe clearly demonstrated.
Thank you for these recipe links! So glad to hear a vegan chef cracked the Food Network with cruelty-free cupcakes. I hope it will inspire more baking enthusiasts to go vegan.
“Vegan” causes more death and suffering than non-vegan. Millions of mice, rats, squirrels, rabbits, moles, voles, gophers, ground-nesting birds, and deer are killed every day in the growing, production, and transporting of grains and vegetables.
Oh, and white sugar isn’t “vegan” – look it up.
Thanks for your comments, eveyone!
Graxe, yes, animals are killed in agriculture every day. That’s another reason to go vegan. If you eat meat, you are not only killing the cows, pigs, chickens, etc. You are also killing all of the wildlife who died to produce the 10-16 pounds of grain that it takes to produce a pound of beef. If we eat the grain directly, we kill fewer animals.
Also, Graxe, you can buy sugar that is refined without bone char.
As a vegan personal chef who specializes in vegan cupcakes, I was so happy for Chloe when I saw this episode! Good for you! and yes you can buy sugar that is vegan…
Like, She Won! It’s Like…WONDERFUL!
Her recipes seem wonderful, scrumptous, and perfect, but I would like it very much if she just wouldn’t talk.
Cuz, like…the valley in the girl is very annoying. Duh!
