"Whale Wars," a 7-part television series documenting the efforts of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to oppose Japanese whaling, premiers on Friday, November 7 at 9 pm, ET/PT on Animal Planet. Along with Iceland and Norway, Japan is one of only three countries that still hunts whales.

Does a whale have more of a right to life than a cow? From an animal rights standpoint, no. From an environmental standpoint, perhaps. Endangered species are deserving of special protection, but not every whale species is endangered. But in cases where we have laws and public opinion on our side, we owe it to the animals to use laws and public opinion to save everyone we can.
