Factory Farm Cruelty is Systemic

Following the release of a PETA undercover video that documented cruelty at a factory farm in Iowa, Farm Sanctuary has issued a statement corroborating the abuse based on pigs the group had rescued from Iowa floodwaters. The pigs rescued by Farm Sanctuary were found with infected sores, broken teeth, and untreated hernias which had been caused by neglect, abuse and confinement before the flood. This corroboration indicates that the abuse in the PETA video is systemic and not isolated.

The video shows the confinement of breeding sows in gestation crates, which are now illegal in Florida, Arizona, Oregon and Colorado. Farm Sanctuary supports California's Proposition 2 to improve conditions for farmed animals. Although Prop. 2 would improve conditions for some animals, there is no such thing as humane meat.
