Factory Farming, Animal Rights and Veganism

My first clue that most farmed animals did not spend their lives happily prancing about rolling green pastures was a pamphlet from Friends of Animals that I read in 1984. The pamphlet contained information and horrific photos from the book Animal Factories, by Jim Mason and Peter Singer. When I first told my parents about factory farming, they were certain the pamphlet was the fantasy of paranoid leftists. After all, who could be so cruel to animals?

Today, most people have heard of factory farming, and the solution is in our hands.

Great to see there is an animal rights section in About.com. The more it is written about this issue, the better.
