Blogging Live From the TAFA Conference
Tuesday July 15, 2008
Barring technical difficulties, I will be blogging live on the first day (Saturday, July 19) of the Taking Action for Animals conference this weekend. Please check the blog for updated info. Although regarded by many to be more welfare-oriented than rights-oriented, the TAFA conference will address many issues of concern to both animal rights and animal welfare activists.
Regarding the difference between animal rights and animal welfare, I believe it's important for animal rights activists to stay true to our convictions and not apologize for them. However, it is also important to not condemn an activist or an organization just because they support some welfarist campaigns. Instead of labelling a person or a group as "welfarist," I think it's more important to look at individual campaigns and decide whether those campaigns merit our support.
